Fear Screen / People and culture

Life at
Fear Screen.

A place for people who care about the work, believe in the genre and want to help build something that the North East can genuinely be proud of. We are creating more than a festival. We are creating a home for horror.

The feeling

Serious about
the work.

We bring the standards of professional production to a festival built around the films, people and ideas that make horror worth caring about.

Fear Screen is run by people with full-time careers in film and television production. That means we understand the importance of preparation, communication, collaboration and turning up ready to do the job properly.

It also means we know that the best work comes from teams who trust one another, respect every contribution and can still enjoy the madness of bringing a live event to life. We take the work seriously, without making the atmosphere joyless.

The work

No two days
are the same.

Fear Screen spans programming, live events, marketing, partnerships, digital content and audience development. Whether you are part of the core team, freelance or volunteering, you will play a real role in shaping experiences, supporting filmmakers and building something that reaches beyond the screen.

Our people

Different skills.
One shared obsession.

Fear Screen needs organisers, designers, programmers, writers, social media minds, event people, hospitality legends and people who can solve a problem before it becomes a disaster. You do not have to come from one particular route to make a difference here.

  • You are trusted to bring ideas, not just complete tasks
  • Clear communication and good preparation are valued
  • Professional standards do not mean losing your personality
  • A genuine love of horror will always make sense here

What it feels like

One minute you are building a plan.
The next, you are watching it come alive.

01

Collaborative

We work across a small, ambitious team where good ideas are shared early and people are encouraged to take ownership of their part of the work.

02

Practical

Festivals are made in the details. We value people who are organised, adaptable and happy to get stuck in when a live event needs something doing.

03

Human

We understand that people have other jobs, responsibilities and lives. We aim to communicate properly, plan realistically and treat people with respect.

04

Worthwhile

You get to help create a platform for original filmmakers, memorable cinema experiences and a stronger home for horror in the North East.

Make your mark

If it matters
to you, bring it.

Whether you are looking for a professional opportunity, freelance work, a placement or a meaningful volunteer role, Fear Screen is a place to develop your skills while helping to build something with real purpose.

We are always interested in meeting capable people with good instincts, a collaborative attitude and a proper love of the genre.
